When do art become original ?
I’ve been questioning myself that for quite some time now. Why do most people believe that art is only good when it is ‘original’. Who decides which art is and what isn’t?
I am quite irritated on people telling me that my art isn’t original. What makes it better? Doing something new doesn’t mean it will turn out great. I can try do something original, something that no one else has done, and still it can turn out bad. Taking portraits with heavy make up or anything, well, there are quite a lot photos like that but why are they so “average” when they all have different emotions or thoughts behind them? Some are less good and some are better and it doesn’t really have anything to do with if they’re original or not.
Really, stop telling me and others what is original or not.
Nothing is original.
Everything is already done.
Deal with it.

their imagination is unfortunately limited in the kinds of art that 1 is able to create – later days

Don’t care too much this kind of comment about “originality”. I totally agree with you that all was yet made and nothing was “original” as never seen. A digital artist of mine make awesome wonderful masterpiece with his art. She is not the first to make this kind of art: she create “similar” piece of the twisted H.R.GIGER. It’s not original at all …but…BUT she neverknow Giger’s art before she created his own vision. I find it really original as an digital artist even if his kind of art or vision was made by other like him. If someone want to be the first on make something i’m sorry for her but he will be a creator not an original. Everybody know about Picasso and his art but when the Guell Park was made by Antonio Gaudi on Barcelona(spain) even if his same kind of art as Picasso, his work was in my mind truly original ever made! He was original on the exposure, on the vision, on his realisation! If someone can’t understand this kind of thing, i suggest him to learn Philosophy and Art history during several years 4 hours every day and maybe his mind finally would be as open to understand the subtle magic of word use.
Jos i feel you very original on what you made, good or not. We don’t see a good work, we can feel this weird mixture between the feeling you make on it and the necessary technical stuff you use on it.
Someone don’t love your work….it’s ok! Art will be always art : a very subjective thing, but you are not less original for that even if you not are as unique he or she would!:)

Exactly! I agree with you.
Thank you for your comment. ^^

Haha for some reason I thought of Lara Jade XD
I don’t hate her btw I love her work
But she’s on of those that thinks that being ‘original or creative’ means the world.
I remember when she got mad that people used red wiggs in pictures (she had done a selfportrait with one on so it was not allowed to use a red wigg anymore I guess lol)
People should try and make art for themselfs and stop trying to be this ‘original’ artist. People never know if someone on the other site of the world already did what they would call original.
Just like I see people at DeviantArt posting a picture and this in the artist comments: I wasn’t sure if I wanted to post this because I’m sure it sucks and you guys won’t like it. Yeah why bother.

Yeah, I understand what you mean and I agree with you. Exactly, it feels like everything is already done and trying to be original isn’t better than doing what you like to do otherwise, because that is usually always better.
“bigger” artists sometimes get their heads too high, believing other artists just want to copy their work.. it’s a little sad. but well 🙂 we all want to protect our works I guess!
